Los Angeles – Not all the magic in Hogwarts could save Rupert Grint from catching the dreaded swine flu.

The Harry Potter star, who plays Harry's best friend Ron Weasley, is recovering from a mild case of the illness, according to the BBC.

But Grint's doctor confirmed that the 20-year-old thesp was no longer contagious, and the wizard-in-training's publicist says the actor is back at work on the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows—the film based on the last book in J.K. Rowling's popular fantasy series.

The next edition in the film series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, hits theaters July 15.

Now that Michael Jackson is gone, the only way to get close to the King of Pop before a public memorial service on Tuesday seems to be a trip to his spiritual home, Neverland Ranch.

And the gates have finally been swung open.

Colony Colony Capital LLC, the Los Angeles firm that established a joint venture with Jackson to rescue Neverland from foreclosure last year, opened the estate to scores of journalists on Thursday.

A host of snapshots freshly released online offer people a rare glimpse into the childlike superstar's fantasyland.

Left unattended since 2005, the vast estate has fallen into disrepair. But main part, including the five-bedroom house and the train station, remain unchanged, despite the removal and sale of much of the furniture to help pay off Jackson's debts, according to foreign media reports.

Neverland is "just a shell without Jackson," said an Associated Press report.

Many fans crowded this place for days after Jackson's death, because they believed he would be brought back there for his funeral and burial. Even after it was announced that the memorial service would be held on Tuesday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, crowds of fans remained at Neverland Ranch.

Some fans hope that the estate will be opened to the public so that people can pay their respects to Jackson. But it remains unknown whether Neverland will become another Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley that was opened to the public in 1982, five years after the singer's death. Jackson only retained a small percentage of ownership in Neverland at the time of his death.

It is unlikely that Jackson remains will be interred on the Neverland premises, because California law prohibits uncremated bodies to be buried in places other than cemeteries.

According to media reports, Jackson purchased the property originally named Sycamore Valley Ranch for a reported $19.5 million in 1987. He renamed it Neverland Ranch, after the fictional land of Peter Pan. The sprawling estate once featured amusement park rides, a zoo and two independent railway lines. It reportedly cost up to $10 million a year to maintain.

Jackson left Neverland in 2005 following the trial of child molestation on which he was later acquitted.

More than 15,000 local and overseas fans flocked to Sydney Olympic Park Acer Arena on Friday night to see the Asian pop star, Jay Chou's first live concert in Australia.

The attraction of Chou is his originality and creative work that embraces a unique mix of Chinese music and western influences.

He combines Chinese and Western music styles to produce songs that fuse R&B, rock and pop genres, covering issues such as domestic violence, war, and urbanization.

"I believe my music can speak to young generations from many countries as music is an international language that can help to break down the language barriers," Chou said.

During the concert, Chou displayed his talents in playing piano, drum, guitar and guzheng that showed distinctive Chinese characteristics. His stage show was complemented by a top Taiwanese band, exotic dancers and state of the art visual effects.

He dedicated his sensational song "Dao Xiang" to the youngsters and encouraged them to have a positive attitude towards life.

"You got to be strong....don't give up your dreams even when facing difficulties in life," Chou said.

Ryan Shum, a young student who attended the concert, described it as an "awesome experience".

The 19-year-old Shum said he was uplifted by Chou's music and inspirational message.

"I was amazed by Chou's talents in magic and Chinese martial art performance. I would like to see him perform again in Australia", Shum said.

Jackson memorial gets 1.6 million ticket requests

LOS ANGELES – The more than 1.6 million fans who registered for tickets to Michael Jackson's memorial service will finally get word Sunday on whether they will be among the lucky few to get tickets for the ceremony.

Fans had to register for free at the Staples Center Web site Saturday for the random drawing of only 8,750 names.

Each person selected will receive two tickets and will be notified by e-mail after 11 a.m. PDT (1800 GMT) Sunday, according to a Staples Center news release.

The tickets will admit 11,000 people to the Staples Center plus 6,500 in the Nokia Theater overflow section next door.

Before the drawing, officials of AEG, the owner and operator of the Staples Center, will "scrub" the entries to eliminate duplicates and any suspected of being made by automated systems or "go-bots," Jackson family spokesman Ken Sunshine said in a statement.

Winners will receive a unique code and instructions on how to pick up their tickets Monday at an off-site distribution center. When they pick up their tickets, a wristband will be placed on their wrists.

Fans must have both the ticket and the wristband to enter Staples Center on Tuesday. Wristbands that have been ripped, taped or tampered with will be voided.

Sunshine said those steps are being taken to prevent ticket-scalping.

City officials are preparing for huge crowds. Assistant Police Chief Earl Paysinger says as many as 700,000 people may try to reach the arena, even though a wide area around Staples Center will be sealed off to people without tickets.

City Councilwoman Jan Perry strongly urged people to stay home and watch the memorial on television. The ceremony will not be shown on Staples' giant outdoor TV screen and there will be no funeral procession through the city.

No details were given about the actual memorial events, which come as the nation's second-largest city struggles with a $530 million budget deficit. Perry said the cost of police protection for "extraordinary" events like the memorial is built into the Police Department's budget, but she still solicited help for "incremental costs."

Last month, donations covered about $850,000 of the city's $1 million cost for the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA championship parade. Critics had blasted the idea of using city money when it is considering layoffs to close its budget gap.

Over 1.6 million people registered for the chance to receive one of the 17,500 free tickets that have been allotted for Tuesday's 10 a.m. service, according to Ken Sunshine, a family spokesman for the Jacksons.

Fans had until 6 p.m. Saturday to apply online. With registration now over, AEG will initiate a thorough "scrubbing" of all entries in order to weed out any duplicates and those suspected of having been made by auto-entry programs or "go-bots," the type frequently utilized by ticket scalpers.

A computer program will then randomly select the winners, who will be notified between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday. Tickets will be divided between venues—with only 11,000 given for the service inside of the Staples Center and the remaining tickets allotted for the screening in the Nokia Theater.

Los Angeles police and city officials have warned fans without tickets to stay home, since the screens outside the venues will not be used to broadcast the event. Organizers have also taken pains to stress the service is not a show but a public remembrance of the 50-year-old singer, who died suddenly June 25 of a suspected cardiac arrest.

As the city and Jackson family prepare for Tuesday's memorial service, E! News has confirmed that the Rev. Al Sharpton will be calling for a National Day of Mourning during his sermon at a Sunday morning church service in Los Angeles.

Although the music legend is being laid to rest, the investigation into his death meanwhile continues.

According to the Los Angeles Times, investigators are concentrating on at least five doctors who prescribed drugs to Jackson after confiscating prescription medications from his Holmby Hills mansion this week, one of which is Propofol, an anesthetic used in hospitals and not commonly given out for sleep disorders

There has been much speculation that the drug, which is administered with an IV, and other prescriptions may have played a strong role in the King of Pop's death. Sources tell the Times that some of the drugs were prescribed to Jackson's pseudonyms, and others didn't have prescription labels at all.

Madonna Pays Tribute to Michael Jackson in Concert

Los Angeles (E! Online) – The reigning queen of pop paid her respects to the late King of Pop Saturday night with a musical tribute to the star.

Madonna performed in the O2 in London, the same arena where Michael Jackson was set to stage his This Is It series of concerts beginning July 13.

As Madonna sang "Holiday" during her "Sticky and Sweet" tour, a Jackson impersonator took the stage, sporting a sequin-embellished jacket, white glove, white socks and a white T-shirt. An image of a young Jackson was projected in the background.

The impersonator then moonwalked to Jackson's "Wanna Be Starting Something."

After Madonna shouted, "Let's give it up for one of the greatest artists the world has ever known," she and her dancers donned jeweled gloves on their right hands to honor Jackson in their last dance.

Madonna wasn't the only mega-star paying tribute to Jackson in recent days. At its world tour opening show in Barcelona last week, U2 performed "Angel of Harlem" and Bono threw in some lyrics to some of Jackson's greatest hits.

Television networks planning Jackson coverage

NEW YORK – NBC executives changed their minds Sunday and decided to join other networks that will televise Michael Jackson's memorial service live this week.

NBC joins ABC, CNN, MSNBC and E! Entertainment in offering the ceremony live. It's set for 10 a.m. PDT at Los Angeles' Staples Center.

NBC had initially planned only a one-hour prime-time special on Tuesday night, but said Sunday it would also cover the event live. It was not immediately clear who would anchor.

Charles Gibson will anchor coverage for ABC, which is setting aside its typical daytime programming.

CBS anchor Katie Couric will be at the Staples Center, although the network had not yet said whether it was offering live coverage of the memorial.

CNN has seen its ratings soar with the Jackson story, and it will show the memorial on the main network and HLN (formerly Headline News). CNN International will air the ceremony to the rest of the world. Anderson Cooper, Larry King and Don Lemon are the anchors for CNN coverage. Robin Meade, A.J. Hammer and Jane Velez-Mitchell will anchor at HLN. CNN en Espanol also will cover it.

Chris Jansing will anchor live coverage of the memorial on MSNBC. Shepard Smith will anchor live coverage of the ceremony on Fox News, with Megyn Kelly anchoring coverage of the event on the Fox network.

E! Entertainment and TV Guide will cover the ceremony on their television networks and Web sites.

Bollywood can't stop talking about the Delhi High Court's landmark judgement that has decriminalised gay sex. From Shatrughan Sinha to Sushmita Sen, all say the verdict was long due and celebrates an individual's right to choose. And they all feel lesbians, gays and transgenders can finally live freely without fear.

Shatrughan Sinha: Old rusty laws are like useless politicians. They should be thrown out. I'm glad Section 377 has been repealed. It was long due. What two people do in the privacy of their bedroom is nobody's business. Homosexuality is not a phenomenon restricted to one country, culture or community. All over the world some of the finest minds are inclined towards same-sex relationships. What is wrong with that as long as two people are happy?

John Abraham: I think the right to a personal choice is a very fundamental right and, thank god, the law against homosexuals has been repealed. Yes, I've gay fans and I did a film 'Dostana', which mercifully did not ridicule the community. I've been brought up in a very liberal Parsi-Catholic household. I believe minorities don't exist any longer. Every community - including homosexuals - has a majority voice.

But public safety officials appeared to assume their requests to stay home would have little effect. Since Jackson's death, fans have flocked to Jackson sites from Los Angeles to his Neverland Ranch in rural Santa Barbara County.

Staples Center is offering the memorial tickets through an Internet lottery. Eleven thousand tickets are for the arena and 6,500 for the adjacent Nokia Theatre.

People who want tickets must register on the Web at Staplescenter.com. After 6 p.m. Saturday, 8,750 names will be randomly selected to receive two tickets each. Notifications will go out on Sunday.

After the ticketing details were announced on television, it became impossible to log on to the arena's Web site.

Brent Trueheart, 20, of Los Angeles, went online on his cellphone immediately after hearing the announcement.

"It kept saying 'service unavailable, service unavailable,' and finally it got through. So once it got through, I started celebrating," he said. "It feels real good."

AEG chief: Rehearsal footage may become motion pic

A 30-second snippet of Michael Jackson rehearsing two days before his death was released Thursday, part of more than 100 hours of footage that could be turned into live albums, a movie and a pay-per-view special, the promoter said.

The treasure trove of material, along with possible insurance proceeds and ticket sales to memorabilia collectors, could help benefit the late singer's estate, which is burdened by an estimated $400 million in debt.

"He was our partner in life and now he's our partner in death," Randy Phillips, president and CEO of concert promoter AEG Live, said in an interview at Staples Center.

Jackson had been rehearsing for a giant series of comeback shows in London.

"If we all do our jobs right, we could probably raise hundreds of millions of dollars just on the stuff we have worldwide and then the estate could eradicate its debt."

AEG Live also stands to profit from the material. Jackson's album sales have exploded since his death, with three of his albums in the top three spots and 2.3 million tracks downloaded in the United States, Nielsen SoundScan said. Worldwide digital downloads for the week hit 3.3 million.

The clip released Thursday shows Jackson dancing and singing to "They Don't Really Care About Us" on June 23 during a rehearsal at Staples Center. He died two days later at age 50.

Phillips said he released the clip because he was tired of seeing the singer negatively portrayed in the media since his death.

"I said let's grab one piece where we can show people where he was headed," he said. "He was developing getting his moves together."

The rehearsal footage, shot in high definition, includes Jackson performing his hits "Thriller" and "Beat It." Other footage shows production meetings and auditions.

"We have enough audio to make two live albums, and he's never done a live album," Phillips said. "This is really the last great work of a 21st century genius."

The production budget for the 50 London shows, which were set to begin July 13, swelled to more than $25 million, he said.

Part of those costs included 3D technology used to produce what Phillips called "mini-movies" involving "Thriller" and "Earth Song."

"That's what's so compelling," he said. "Just `Thriller' is nine minutes of 3D visual insanity."

Another possibility is a tribute show at The O2 arena in London that would be broadcast worldwide and then sold as a DVD, the promoter said.

Phillips said AEG Live is waiting for Jackson's estate to be settled to see who the company will be dealing with. The estate "would get the lion's share" of any profits from the release of the rehearsal footage, he said.

Insurance will help cover any losses on the London shows if the coroner's autopsy shows that Jackson died accidentally -- including of a drug overdose -- but not if he died of natural causes, Phillips said.

AEG Live took out $17.5 million in insurance coverage through Lloyd's of London.

That would fall short of the $25 million to $30 million Phillips said AEG Live spent on Jackson's advance, producing the shows at The O2 arena, covering some of Jackson's debts, and paying his staff and rent on the Holmby Hills mansion where he died.

Phillips added, however, that 40 to 50 percent of concert ticket-buyers have so far decided to receive tickets as memorabilia in lieu of a full refund, a pace that is on track to help the company at least break even on its expenses.

The sold-out concerts had garnered some $85 million in ticket sales, but AEG has offered full refunds on the face value and surcharges.

Phillips said AEG is not in any financial trouble: "I'm heartbroken but the company's fine."

Jackson left behind a battle for control of his estate. Lawyers named in Jackson's will as executors estimated the estate is worth more than $500 million. His mother, Katherine Jackson, is also seeking to become estate administrator.

Phillips said he saw no need to sue the estate to recover any of AEG's costs.

"Right now I think the estate and AEG are very much in line and not adversarial," he said, "and I'd like to keep it that way."

Chennai, June 26 (IANS) "Jai Ho, MJ!" said Oscar winner A.R. Rahman for whom pop legend Michael Jackson symbolised limitless energy, perfection and vision, while the death of his "role model" has left dancing star Prabhu Deva numb.

"MJ, for most of our generation, was an icon who made uncompromising music. He pushed the milestone of pop music to unbelievable levels through the 80s and 90s. I am yet to find an artist with that energy, perfection and vision," said Rahman, who had recently met the pop superstar following the Oscar awards.

"I met him personally after the Oscars in Los Angeles and we vibed very well. He said that he loved India and the Indian people. He said he heard good things about me and he was praising the chord progression of 'Jai Ho's' chorus.

"He was bursting with energy and told me that every dance move he did came from his soul and did a five second stunning example. It was like a lightning strike," the composer recalled.

"He was concerned about developmental issues such as global warming and about wars and its damages to the human community. He asked me to compose a unity anthem on the likes of 'We are the World' for him. I nodded in awe ...!" Rahman added.

"I remember my late sound engineer Sridhar had brought me a video of the premiere of 'Remember the Time' when I was recording 'Kadal Rojave' for my first movie Roja. Seeing it inspired all of us that afternoon," he said.

In a philosophical note, Rahman concluded his condolence statement: "Life is short..! Artists and their art live for ever. Jai Ho, MJ ! We love you for your music, regardless of all the controversies!"

For Prabhu Deva, who is often called the 'Michael Jackson of India', the death of his "role model" is more than a personal loss.

"He was my biggest inspiration and actually I idolised him. I am still in a daze and it will take time for me to come to terms with reality", said the choreographer-actor, who was struggling to get the right words.

Said Vidyasagar, another leading Tamil music director: "MJ had been a youth icon for over three decades. He deserves a special place in history. His demise has robbed us of a great musician and a noble human being."

Qureshi joined the country's leading film personalities in the protest against the Film Censor Board chairman Ziauddin for adopting "favouritism" while deciding the awardees.

As a mark of protest, two leading film personalities - Amjad Farzind, the chairman of the Film Producers Association, and actor Shaan - announced to return their awards demanding sacking of Ziauddin for holding the "ill-planned" event.

Terming the ceremony as "insulting", Farzind said that the film industry had not waited four years to witness the "mismanagement and nepotism" of Ziauddin. He also appealed to the media to urge the government not to show the awards ceremony on international channels.

Another Pakistani actress Sana Nawaz, also pitched in to the protest by alleging that Meera's death threats, while she was shooting for the film, were all hogwash and self-created.

"I agree the Hindi film industry may be far bolder than its counterpart in Pakistan, but that's no reason to believe Meera's allegations that she received death threats for deciding to act in Nazar. It was all self-created publicity and everybody knows the reason why she did it," says Sana, who has been cast opposite Sunny Deol in Ammtoje Mann's Kaafila-The Mission.

Deeply hurt by the malicious onslaught, Meera resorted to the extreme step and shifted her base to Dubai, where she has bought herself an apartment and also applied for a residential permit.

Says incensed Meera, “I’m extremely hurt and upset by the behaviour of my colleagues in the Pakistani film industry. The public loves me but it’s a section of the film fraternity that is jealous of my success. They are dogmatic people who are intolerant of what I represent.

"It was an extremely prestigious award given by the Government of Pakistan, but they said I didn’t deserve it. They created such a hullabaloo while I was on stage. The next day, they called a press conference and returned their awards.”

But now what, has she severed off her ties with Pakistan?

“I would rather work in Indian films and live in Dubai. And if the offers are really great, I will do Pak commercials and films," says the rebellious star.

Adnan Sami father to be buried in Islamabad

Mumbai, June 24 (IANS) Singer Adnan Sami said his father, a prominent Pakistani diplomat, passed away in a hospital here Monday and as per his last wish the body will be flown to Islamabad to be buried near his home.

Arshad Sami Khan died from cancer of the pancreas and the funeral is to be held Friday, the singer said.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani are expected to attend Arshad Sami's state funeral in Islamabad.

"He will be getting a full state funeral with a 21-gun salute. And yes, the prime minister and president are coming. My mom, son and brother are flying into Karachi from Mumbai Thursday and from there we take a connecting flight to Islamabad where the burial will take place on Friday after the Jumma prayers," Adnan told IANS before flying off to Pakistan.

Adnan, who is of Pakistani descent but was born and brought up in Britain, has been living in Mumbai for quite some time.

His father was close to many of Pakistan's political elite.

Early this year when Adnan's father was down here from Houston for a holiday, he had a relapse of the cancer and was taken to Criticare for treatment. Later he was shifted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.

"You know he died on my brother's birthday. We did our best for him. My only regret is that we could spend only 15 minutes of his last moments when we could've been with him much longer if my dear wife (estranged wife Sabah) hadn't chosen that morning to visit our home. But I guess god is watching," said Adnan.

After his father's death, Adnan immediately contacted the Indian government to allow him to fly to Islamabad.

"The Indian authorities have been exceptionally co-operative and a wonderful support to me and and my family in this hour of distress. I can't thank them enough," said Adnan emotionally.

Mumbai, April 20 (IANS) After reported fights between his estranged wife Sabah and friend Pooja Bedi, Adnan Sami has now got death threats. The Bollywood singer says he has informed Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari about the calls.

"I had to," said Adnan. "He's (Gilani) an old family friend. I know him from the time he was the speaker of the Pakistan assembly. And I've informed President Asif Zardari also. They had to know about the threats because if something happens to me, they should know whom to point a finger at," Adnan told IANS.

Adnan, who is of Pakistani descent but born and brought up in Britain, has been living in Mumbai for quite some time. His father Arshad Sami Khan was a Pakistani diplomat and was close to many of Pakistan's political elite.

"If I'm harmed, it would become an international issue and I don't want the wrong people to be accused," Adnan added.

Sabah suspects Pooja has a relationship with Adnan and attacked her when she visited him at his home. Pooja is said to have suffered scratches in Sabah's assault.

Both Pakistan's president and prime minister have ensured Adnan all support and cooperation.

"Not just them. I've also approached the Indian home ministry and the highest authorities have assured me optimum cooperation. The support I've received during the time of my stress from outside and inside Bollywood is overwhelming," said Adnan.

Speaking reluctantly about the death calls, Adnan said: "The first call came at around 9.30 a.m. on Thursday followed by one every half hour. It was very clear in its intention. The person on the other end warned me to lay off someone or face the consequences. But I didn't act intimidated at all. The caller clearly named the person on whose behalf he was calling. I was horrified and appalled beyond words. Can anyone normal or sane stoop so low?"

Adnan immediately informed the Mumbai authorities that his life is in danger.

"They've very kindly beefed up my security. The number of security personnel around me has gone up drastically. But I'm not feeling safe any longer. I want people to know who's to blame if something happens to me," he said.

"I feel everyone close to me is now in danger. So I've decided that they should all stay as far away as possible from the house. My mother, who was in Islamabad for her father's funeral, is back in the house to look after my father. But I'm asking my entire family and friends to be nowhere near me. My mom won't travel anywhere with me. I'd never be able to forgive myself they came to any harm.

"When my son Azaan came to know, he insisted he was coming over (from Karachi) right away. He was distraught. No chance in hell I'd leave him vulnerable to any attack. And the person getting these calls made would happily hurt my son. Azaan threatens to catch the next flight to Mumbai."

Adnan says the caller makes it clear on whose behalf the calls are being made.

"No bumper prizes for guessing who," he said. "I've told them, "Jo bhi karna hai kar lo (Do whatever you can)."

"I'm in and out of court so much now, it's become a way of life. Now with these death threats the law and the legal system are my best friends. I've begun to feel so isolated from all my friends.

"The other day I recorded a song with A.R. Rahman. Everyone was being polite but distant. They didn't know what to say to me until I broke the ice by saying, 'Sorry I'm half an hour late, guys. I was just dealing with a troublesome wife in court.' They burst out laughing."

Adnan's lawyers now have a written a document from him which would be opened in case he's harmed.

"I know exactly who to blame if anything happens to me. And I also know which political party in Mumbai is abetting this person," Adnan said without naming anyone.

Two of Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's big budget films may have bombed this year, but it doesn't worry director Sabbir Khan who has cast him in his ready-to-release mega-budget directorial debut movie " Kambakkht Ishq ".

"Failures of Akshay's movies don't affect me at all because a movie is a movie...and as a director, you just want to know whether the audiences want to see it or not," said Khan.

"Everybody goes through ups and downs. An actor's last success doesn't mean anything for a director...That way we wouldn't have had any more movies of Amitabh Bachchan or Shah Rukh Khan or Tom Cruise," he added.

Both of Akshay's much-hyped releases this year -- " Chandni Chowk To China " and " 8X10 Tasveer " -- bombed at the box-office.

"I think whosoever's worked with Akshay will want to repeat him. He becomes an instant favourite because of the person he is. He is a genuine human being and a brilliant actor," said Khan who earlier worked as an assistant director in an Akshay starrer, the 2004 comedy " Mujhse Shaadi Karogi ".

The first time director, who has scripted " Kambakkht Ishq ", was in the capital to promote the film.

Shot at Universal Studios in Hollywood as well as Italy, Venice and Mumbai, the romantic comedy has much publicised cameos from Hollywood stars like Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards.

Releasing July 3, the film has been produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

"Both the producer and I dreamt big and we sort of took a simple and interesting story and made it larger than life," said Khan, who is the son of 1960s lyricist Noor Dewasi.

When asked if he was apprehensive about filming Hollywood big shots, Khan said: "I'm a director and I can't let anything overwhelm me. I'm the captain of the ship and it's my job to lead a crew of 300 people every day. So I can't be nervous filming them (Hollywood stars), though I was excited for sure when they agreed to be part of it.

"I had no apprehensions because we were so well-prepared, but it was great shooting Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards. The Hollywood stars are the USP of the film. They have some very interesting cameos in the film."

Starring Kareena Kapoor in the female lead, it also has Aftab Shivdasani and Amrita Arora in pivotal roles.

The producer is aggressively promoting the film, but Khan has been sidelined from the promotional activities.

Asked about his subdued presence, he said: "It's very natural that my name is subdued. It's only my first film as a director and nobody knows me. Sajid, Akshay and Kareena are very famous people and if the film is known by them, it's absolutely great to have better known people to be associated with the film."

Khan is slated to direct another project with Nadiadwala early next year.

"Logic does not work for me. I had worked in a logical film 8X 10 Tasveer but it bombed. I think films are bigger than life. 'Kambakkht Ishq' has a lot of comedy, emotions, action and battle of sexes," said the actor, who plays a typical male chauvinist character in the film.

The actor may be hailed as one of Bollywood's best action heroes with his death-defying stunts but Akshay said he too struggles to overcome his fears before performing a daring scene. "I just love heights but whenever I do a stunt, even if its from a stool, I get scared. But in the end I overcome my fears."

Talking about his experiences about sharing the screen space with Stallone, he said in a jocular vein, "I thought I'd be silent when I'll meet him. Of all the things, we were talking about bones. His knee was broken, while I had a bad back so the focus was on our respective doctors."

Akshay was quite adamant about his 'kissing' scene with former Bond girl Richards and said he did what was required in the film.

"Kambhakt Ishq represents a mix of cultures, I have done what was required," he said.

The actor who has moved away from the 'action' tag in recent comedy blockbusters felt it's very difficult to make people laugh.

"It is very easy to do an emotional scene, you can just put some glycerin. But to make people laugh through comedy is very difficult," he said.

Clark Hallren Exiting JP Morgan's Showbiz Group For Rizvi Traverse Management?

3 PM UPDATE: I've confirmed with insiders that talks are taking place between Clark Hallren and Suhail Rizvi. But don't expect any immediate announcements about Hallren's plans because Clark's contract with JP Morgan doesn't expire until August. "Clark has been having lunches for the past 6 weeks telling people that he's leaving the bank and going to work for Rizvi," one source tells me. "He starts the new gig in August."

6:25 AM: This is certainly a surprise. Film financing sources are telling me that Hollywood pal Clark Hallren, the longtime Managing Director in the Los Angeles-based Entertainment Industries Group of JP Morgan Securities, is leaving. The word is he may join Connecticut-based Rizvi Traverse Management and work with equity fund operator Suhail Rizvi (best known to Hollywood as a substantial investor in ICM). Hallren since November 1986 had been with JP Morgan's showbiz group which arranges 95% of financing for major movie studios and independent film producers. (For instance, he played the major role aiding Starz's Overture Films led by CEO Chris McGurk to complete $325M in long-term film slate financing and distribution agreements for the company, including a $225M credit facility provided by a group of banks led by JP Morgan.) JP Morgan's Entertainment Industries group remains one of the few active banks authorizing multibillion dollar lines of credits in the film financing arena after Deutsche Bank and Dresdner Kleinwort and others shut their showbiz divisions. The unit has worked with DreamWorks SKG, MGM, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros as well as some of Hollywood's best-known films, including Gladiator, Seabiscuit and many of the James Bond movies. Among other deals, it arranged the IPOs for DreamWorks Animation and RHI Entertainment, the $4.8 billion sale of MGM to Sony Corp of America and its equity partners, and the $340 million revolving credit facility for Lions Gate. Long led by legend John Miller, the Entertainment Industries Group is now headed by David Shaheen who took over when Miller retired after 30 years. Hallren's move to Rizvi (amid rumors his contract wasn't extended) must mean the ICM investor wants to dive deeper into showbiz investments.

Cash & Carey: News Corp's $40M Man?

The two Big Media companies with the worst reputations for both underpaying its employees and pennypinching everyone else are the Walt Disney Co and News Corp. So it continually outrages me how both these corporations overpay their top two bosses. Disney CEO Bob Iger ranks #3 among the 10 highest-paid CEOs for 2008 at Standard & Poor's 500 companies, earning $51.1M. (And let's not forget his "Golden Coffin".) Now News Corp's filings with the SEC show it's throwing money at its new Vice Chairman, President and COO Chase Carey just like it did President/COO Peter Chernin. Carey will receive a salary of $8.1M a year, which nearly quadruples the base pay he received as CEO of DirecTV. He also received a baseball-like $10M cash signing bonus and use of the corporate or a chartered jet for business and pleasure. Plus, he's eligible for an annual performance-based bonus of as much as $25 million. Oh, and did I mention that News Corp stock has declined 38% in the past year? By contrast, DirecTV paid Carey a base salary of $2.3M last year and his total compensation including stock options was $13M. Meanwhile PaidContent.org says Slingbox co-founder Blake Krikorian is up for the DirecTV job.

FRIDAY PM/SATURDAY AM: The Fourth Of July 5-day holiday weekend blasted off at the North American box office Friday with something for everyone: families, fanboys, and adults fed up there's been almost nothing for them in movie theaters. Fox's Ice Age 3-D: Dawn of the Dinosaurs opened very promisingly with $14 million Wednesday, $11.5M Thursday, and $16.2M Friday from 3,993 venues. (Rival studios had been claiming the pic wasn't tracking well with young boys, and that's why 20th felt the need to sneak it at 330 theaters recently. Fox said it "added an additional marketing layer prior to the onslaught of Transformers 2.) With the public clearly not tiring of 3-D toons, the threequel can come close to $45M July Fourth weekend and $70M for the full 5-day holiday even though Saturday's grosses on the 4th will be weak for every movie.

The toon should stay neck and neck all weekend with the $47M July Fourth weekend and $68M five-day holiday expected for Paramount's Tranformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen. The robot sequel took in $11 million Wednesday from its still gigantic release into 4,234 dates (-82% from its record-smashing opening day a week ago), and took back the No. 1 title with $11.6M Thursday, and $17.6M Friday. So even though the pic has been panned, it's clearly standing tall on strong legs. The actioner's domestic cume is now a huge $295M going into its 10th day and on the verge of becoming the highest-grossing pic of 2009 with over $250M from international, and a new worldwide total over a staggering $500+M.

Despite strong tracking and positive reviews, Universal had been nervous about the debut of Public Enemies because so many adult-oriented pics have failed in recent weeks. (So were exhibitors. According to a report slipped to me by a rival studio, they were disappointed with the story, felt it lacked the promised action, and squirmed when it was too long.) But the well marketed combination of Michael Mann and Johnny Depp is luring adult filmgoers hungry for another original and artistic crime saga which is a rarity in this summer of remakes, reboots and reheated sequels. The expensive gangster pic opened to $8 million Wednesday, $6.7M Thursday, and $9.6M for Friday from 3,319 runs. It's expected to make $25M for the July Fourth weekend and a decent $40M for the 5-day holiday. That's above the $30+M which Uni had projected in order to lower expectations. But you won't hear audible sighs coming from Black Tower unless Public Enemies shows legs and passes $100M domestic.

Disney's The Proposal came in #4 with $5.2M Friday for what's projected to be a $13.5M Fourth Of July weekend for a $95M cume. in 5th place, Warner Bros' The Hangover just keeps going on and on and for $4.4M Friday for an estimated $10.5M holiday weekend and a new cume of $204.5M. Close for #6, Pixar/Disney's Up made $2.4M Friday for what's probably a $6M July Fourth weekend and new cume of $264.3M. New Line/Warner Bros' My Sisters Keeper came in No. 7 and took in $2.3M Friday for an estimated $5.7M weekend and cume of $26.5M.

Sony's The Taking Of Pelham 123 was 8th with $1M Friday and projected $2.5M weekend and cume of $58.5M. Sony's bomb Year One came in #9 with $850K and an estimated $2.1M Friday for a $38.2M cume. Amd, rounding out the Top 10, Fox's Night at the Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian earned $725K Friday for what's probably a $1.9M weekend and cume of $167.5M.

This weekend, total box office looks like $165M, slightly up from last year and close to the 2004 record. But, again, the July Fourth drop-off expected for Saturday can't be exaggerated.
